About the Role:
The McGrath Cancer Care Nurse is a key and impactful role within WSLHD. We are looking for a passionate and driven nurse to lead the way in delivering specialised care for people affected by Upper Gastrointestinal cancer. This exciting new position combines advanced clinical care, patient advocacy, and service innovation in collaboration with the McGrath Foundation. If you’re an experienced Cancer Nurse, Clinical Nurse Consultant, have a background in oncology, upper gastrointestinal surgery, or care coordination—we want to hear from you. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead expert care and innovative services for Upper Gastrointestinal cancer patients
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary treatment plans and ongoing support
  • Provide clinical leadership, mentorship, and education across teams
  • Collaborate with the McGrath Foundation to drive impactful outcomes
  • Shape the future of Upper GI cancer services through planning and research 

About You:
You are a compassionate, resilient, and experienced oncology nurse who leads with heart and purpose. With at least three years in upper gastrointestinal or oncology nursing and a strong foundation in care coordination, you thrive in complex clinical environments and bring a calm, expert presence to patients and their families during challenging times.

How to Apply
If you are an experienced Cancer Nurse, Clinical Nurse Consultant and have a background in oncology, upper gastrointestinal surgery, or care coordination—we want to hear from you!  Apply online by submitting your resume and addressing the criteria listed below, providing examples that demonstrate your ability before the closing date. 

Essential Criteria:

  • Registration: Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Qualification: Holds approved postgraduate qualifications relevant to the specialty of Upper GI Cancer Care or qualifications deemed appropriate by WSLHD
     

Selection Criteria:

  1. Registered Nurse with at least five years post registration experience with at least three years' experience in relevant field
  2. Demonstrated expertise in assessment, diagnosis/ formulation/ management of patients with cancer.
  3. Proven clinical leadership capabilities with the ability to provide consultancy advice, education and support to individuals, their families, nursing staff and other health professionals.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and an ability to identify and improve opportunities to enhance continuity of care between Upper GI cancer and other health care services.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and in a multidisciplinary team with high level time management, problem solving, analytical and organisational skills
  6. Demonstrated competency in written and verbal communication, report writing and research skills.
