About the Opportunity 
The Health Promotion Officer (HPO) – Mental Wellbeing will participate in / lead the development, implementation, evaluation and dissemination of health promotion strategies and programs. These programs are designed to:

a) Strengthen protective factors for mental wellbeing

b) Reduce the health impact of disadvantage

The HPO will participate in needs assessments of populations and strategies addressing the whole community including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

The HPO will demonstrate the application of an evidence-based approach to policy and program development, implementation and evaluation.

The HPO will contribute to the development and review of relevant Health Promotion Service (HPS) business and strategic plans and contribute to the development of project plans for their key areas of focus. They will participate in local governance mechanisms to support programs to agreed standards.

The HPO will work collaboratively with health services, other government departments, non-government organisations and community members on health promotion strategies.

The HPO will contribute to further development of effective partnerships to increase the quality of HPS initiatives.

How to Apply

  1. Tertiary qualifications in social science, health or related field
  2. Demonstrated experience and knowledge in planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion initiatives (particularly relating to mental health issues and promotion, prevention and early intervention for mental wellbeing)
  3. Experience working in community-based settings particularly with diverse communities
  4. Understanding of evidence-based health promotion and the ability to work in partnership with other staff and government, non-government and community organisations
  5. Effective organisational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
  6. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
