Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

What you'll be doing

The Health & Security Officer (Wardspersons) primary purpose is to provide patient support and assist clinical staff in patient care within limits of skills and knowledge base.   

The position will also have a responsibility to ensure the protection, security and safety of all staff, patients and visitors.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (2 doses) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Hold a current Class 1A NSW Security Licence, current First Aid Certificate and a current valid Class C Driver's Licence.
  2. Demonstrated experience and commitment to Work Health and Safety issues involved in lifting and transferring patients.
  3. Demonstrated ability to read and understand essential documentation including safe work practices and infection control procedures.
  4. Demonstrated experience in effectively and safely managing confrontation and aggression.
  5. Demonstrated experience in providing services with a strong responsive customer service focus.
  6. Demonstrated experience in communicating appropriately and effectively in a wide range of complex situations.
  7. Demonstrated basic computer skills.
