MNCLHD is seeking to fill two Surgical Fellow positions for the 2026 clinical year. One position is available at Coffs Harbour Health Campus and the other at Port Macquarie Base Hospital


What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Clinical Director of Surgery, the Surgical Fellow in General Surgery will lead the Acute Surgical Unit to provide clinical care to patients as well as perform all types of general emergency surgery for the Coffs Clinical Network or Hastings Macleay Clinical Network..  

The Staff Specialist will run an outpatient clinic, participate in the consultant on-call roster (one night per week and one weekend in seven), as well as assist in the education and administrative roles of the department.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Acute Surgical Unit to deliver comprehensive clinical care.
  • Perform a wide range of general emergency surgeries.
  • Manage and run outpatient clinics.
  • Participate in the consultant on-call roster.
  • Assist in the education and administrative roles within the department. 
  • GESA accreditation required.



This is a Category A position. Recommended applicants will be reviewed for compliance with NSW Health policy directive for Category A positions prior to offer.

Salary will be accordance with NSW Health State Awards for the advertised classification/s.  These awards are available at

  1. MBBS or equivalent, Fellowship of the Royal Australiasian College of Surgeons and unconditional registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency.
  2. Demonstrated significant experience relevant to General Surgery and evidence of competence in skills relevant to a regional centre hospital practice, including trauma and emergency services.
  3. Excellent communication and liaison skills, fostering positive and productive working relationships between team members and with other disciplines.
  4. Willing to commit to an adequate hospital on-call roster for General Surgery.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education relevant to General Surgery including teaching of medical students, JMOs, Nursing Staff and other staff as required and on ongoing commitment to surgical research.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to clinical quality improvement, accreditation requirements and peer review.
  7. GESA accreditation required.
