About us:
The John Hunter Hospital Pharmacy Department is seeking an outstanding Pharmacist to manage our dispensary service on a temporary full time basis whilst the incumbent is on leave.

We are a department of approximately 75 staff consisting of amazing pharmacists and our wonderful technicians and support team.

Combine your clinical and people leadership skills whilst you co-ordinate the inpatient and outpatient dispensary service function at our busy 700 bed tertiary referral hospital.

We will be ensuring that staff are adequately trained, that policies and legislation are adhered to and that there is a focus on high quality and safe medication management. This position will integrate into the JHH pharmacy management team and contribute to departmental governance, strategic policy and planning, and service provision.

About the role:
This dispensary manager provides leadership, management, and coordination of the entire dispensary service for both inpatients and outpatients. This includes provision of best practice clinical services, education and quality improvement activities. They will ensure that staff are adequately trained, that policies and legislation are adhered to and that there is a focus on high quality and safe medication management.

This position integrate into the JHH pharmacy management team and contributes to departmental governance, strategic policy and planning. It presents an opportunity to contribute to our planning as we prepare for the implementation of the Single Digital Patient Record and associated new workflows.

The dispensary manager has direct contribution to the development and support of our interns as they rotate through the dispensary. You will provide direct line management and supervision to a small team of pharmacists, technicians and interns and contribute to service delivery goals across the greater pharmacy department.

You will be supported by a strong management team and work closely with a team of dedicated and skilled technicians and pharmacists, with a senior technician based in the dispensary to support you in delivering a patient centred service.

About you:

  • You will be a people person with great communication and interpersonal skills and a drive to improve practice and the skillset and professional development of yourself and others.
  • You will have an understanding of the operational aspects of hospital pharmacy service delivery and the factors influencing that and demonstrated experience in managing dispensary services
  • You meet the award criteria for appointment at Grade 3 (This role requires a professional portfolio to be submitted as evidence for claims against selection criteria)
  • You have an excellent understanding of PBS dispensing and in particular the S100 dispensing
  • You have demonstrated strong leadership, management and analytical skills and experience in managing people.


Requirements:

  • Proof of eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration agency with relevant post-graduate qualifications.
  • Significant experience working within a hospital environment.
