NBMLHD is committed to the delivery of safe high-quality care through the implementation of robust clinical governance processes to create an environment that is transparent and accountable for patient safety and quality of care outcomes. The Clinical Governance team works with and supports clinical staff to ensure rigorous review and audit of patient outcomes with effective uptake of safety initiatives. This includes the provision of support and facilitation for quality improvement activities to improve the services that are provided to patients, families and the community.

Working closely with the district's Chief Executive, the Director for Clinical Governance is responsible for leading the districts Clinical Governance function to promote and support patient safety and clinical excellence within the district's health services. In this role, you will provide expert advice to the Chief Executive on Legislative and regulatory requirements in relation to safety and quality including compliance within the Australian Health Service Safety and Quality Accreditation Scheme. Key to the success of this role is working collaboratively with other members of the District Executive team in analysing, maintaining, and improving patient safety and clinical quality systems across the district.

What you will bring to the role:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant health related discipline and/or extensive high-level and demonstrated record of success in leading and managing clinical governance functions in a large complex service environment.
  2. Demonstrated excellent leadership skills and ability to manage and develop staff including capacity to build an effective and high performing team.
  3. Conceptual and innovative problem-solving skills for managing conflicting priorities and developing timely, successful recommendations and advice on policies, strategies and solutions.
  4. Demonstrated high level negotiation, consultative and interpersonal communication and relationship management skills with ability to influence diverse stakeholders and work collaboratively to make decisions and manage cultural change.
  5. Extensive practical knowledge of clinical systems and health services and demonstrated knowledge of concepts, principles and practice of clinical governance, including understanding of human and other factors impacting on patient safety.
  6. Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and motivate clinicians and senior managers and to initiate and achieve significant change and improvement in clinical governance.
  7. Knowledge and understanding of public health policy issues including evidence-based practice, health care safety and quality, health service evaluation, health care funding and resource allocation.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to Achieving Better Health outcomes, goals and strategies with demonstrated behaviours which align with the NSW Health CORE values and NBMLHD vision, value and purpose.
