Where you'll be working
Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you'll be doing
The GambleAware Multicultural Service is a state-wide specialist service that works with GambleAware Providers to deliver culturally responsive services for individuals, families and communities from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. The service also provides culturally responsive gambling counselling services in multiple languages.

 
This position is responsible for the provision of face-to-face, telephone and online counselling and information to clients from CALD communities living in NSW and service providers contacting the  GambleAware Multicultural Service , addressing financial and psychological issues arising from problem levels of gambling. The position will correspond with financial institutions advocating for clients; assist clients in reviewing their financial situation, develop a plan to manage debts, engage with other support services and provide education on budgeting skills.

Essential Criteria:

Qualification: Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Counselling or Psychology and Financial Counselling
Registration: Membership with FACAN and relevant professional body - the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) ; or for Social Workers eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

Selection Criteria:

  1. Accreditation in financial counselling including FCAN membership and qualification in social or behavioural sciences with registration with the responsible regulatory body
  2. Demonstrated experience and theoretical knowledge of working therapeutically with addiction, specifically gambling, in a variety of settings, for example individuals, couples, families and groups
  3. Demonstrated skills in mental health assessment and crisis intervention
  4. Knowledge and application of legislation and regulations relating to gambling and debt recovery and a wide range of networks and services to assist individuals and families with health and welfare concerns
  5. Demonstrated cross-cultural competency when working with clients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  6. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team
  7. Demonstrated effective cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills
  8. Comprehensive computer skills including word processing and use of data bases. Must hold an Australian valid driver’s license and willingness to use for work purposes.
