The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Drug and Alcohol Service offers free, non-judgemental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families. Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments offered with our services underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction.

What you will bring to the role 

  1. Tertiary qualifications, professional registration/membership and significant clinical experience as follows: i) Occupational Therapy - minimum Bachelor Degree and general registration with AHPRA; with clinical experience in a Drug and Alcohol treatment setting or ii) Counselling and Social Work - minimum Bachelor Degree and eligibility for membership of AASW; with clinical experience in a Drug and Alcohol treatment setting or iii) Generalist Psychologist - a four year degree in psychology, being a three year degree with a fourth year honours in psychology; or who has qualifications deemed equivalent by the employer, and has full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with clinical experience in a Drug and Alcohol treatment setting.
  2. Demonstrated ability to provide evidence-based: assessment, individual/ group counselling, case management and referral services for alcohol and other drug affected clients and their support people accessing treatment services in a public health setting.
  3. Demonstrated ability to network with other health service providers and community organisations, for the ongoing support and treatment of drug and alcohol clients.
  4. Knowledge of key concepts and approaches informing Drug and Alcohol Services including harm minimisation and the recovery model of addiction.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a medically led multidisciplinary team and detailed knowledge of evidence based clinical handover processes.
  6. Experience in, or commitment to, working with individuals and families from Indigenous backgrounds and/or diverse cultural backgrounds.
  7. Evidence of an advanced level of verbal and written communication skills and ability to learn and utilise electronic record systems.
  8. Current Driver's Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel
