Now is an exciting time to join The Sutherland Hospital, with our $81.5 million expansion nearing completion. The Sutherland Hospital is a 375-bed, major metropolitan hospital and an associated teaching hospital of the University of NSW.

Where you'll be working:

Yarrabee is a Cardiology Department that consists of 6 Coronary Care beds, 5 sub-acute Coronary Care beds and 15 mixed medical Cardiology, renal and endocrine beds. We look after a wide variety of patient types including those on BIPAP, CPAP, High Flow, Vasoactive medications, Cardiac Pacing and Exercise Stress Tests. We provide an environment that allows for development through the medical ward to the Coronary Care unit. Yarrabee has 11 beds hardwired for haemodynamic monitoring and 16 mobile telemetry units. The nursing team is supported by a Nurse Unit Manager, Clinical Nurse Consultant, Clinical Nurse Educator and a Cardiac Assessment Nurse.

The Clinical Nurse Educator provides coordination, delivery and evaluation of clinical nurse education (including programs) at the ward/unit level. Such education may include orientation and/or transitioning for new nursing staff, undergraduate and casual nurses as well as meeting the ongoing educational needs of existing nursing staff. The Clinical Nurse Educator also provides clinical supervision at the point of care within everyday clinical practice, in line with the ANMC Decision Making Frameworks for Nurses and Midwives.

Established in 1958, The Sutherland Hospital campus offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and community services to around 226,000 residents of the Sutherland Shire, colloquially known as ‘The Shire’. Part of the  South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and located in Caringbah, the hospital campus is close to some of Sydney’s great beaches, restaurants, bars and cafes at Cronulla and is close to the beautiful Royal National Park. At Miranda, just a short walk away from the hospital, there is a Westfield Shopping Centre and cinema complex.

The ideal candidate will have: 

  1. Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
  2. Holds a relevant clinical or education post registration qualification or 3 years clinical experience in the field.
  3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Understanding of teaching and learning in the health care environment (adult learning principles).
  5. Demonstrated clinical teaching & facilitation skills.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of competency attainment and assessment.
  7. Computer literacy and understanding of hospital information systems.
