Where you'll be working:
Are you a passionate and experienced Occupational Therapist or Social Worker ready to take the next step in your career? Join the New England North West Mental Health Service (NENW MHS) in an exciting newly created Clinical Team Leader role, designed to elevate care across our North West (NW) community mental health teams.
Based at Narrabri or Moree (location negotiable), you’ll work closely with our Adult Mental Health Service and lead a dedicated team of clinicians based across Tamworth, Gunnedah, Narrabri and Moree, delivering care through a flexible mix of face-to-face and telehealth services.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape a new team from the ground up. You’ll collaborate with the NW Community Manager, NW Clinical Co-ordinator, and the broader NENW MHS leadership to co-design the role, drive innovation in service delivery, and enhance mental health outcomes for our diverse and growing communities.
If you're a leader with heart, vision and a commitment to rural mental health — we want to hear from you.
About the role:
As Clinical Team Leader, you’ll play a pivotal dual role — combining hands-on clinical care with operational leadership. Working in partnership with the North West Community Manager and Clinical Coordinator, you’ll provide both strategic direction and day-to-day support for community teams based in Narrabri and Moree.
In this senior leadership role, you will:
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based clinical care to consumers across the North West.
- Offer specialist clinical consultation and act as a key point of escalation for complex clinical and operational issues.
- Guide and support the daily practice of clinicians, ensuring coordinated and person-centred care.
- Champion professional, legal, and ethical standards in all aspects of service delivery.
- Oversee service operations, including workload monitoring, performance review, and staff supervision.
- Drive excellence through operational planning, achievement of service targets and KPIs, and continuous service improvement.
- Provide professional leadership for your discipline across the broader New England North West Mental Health Service.
Support and professional development:
You’ll be well-supported in your role through regular collaboration with the Community Manager, Clinical Coordinator, and your Head of Discipline. Clinical supervision is available and encouraged. As part of the broader Hunter New England Local Health District Mental Health Service, you’ll also benefit from access to a strong professional network and district-wide educational opportunities.
About you:
You’re a compassionate, skilled, and flexible leader who thrives in a dynamic environment. You’ll bring a proactive mindset and a strong commitment to both clinical excellence and team wellbeing. Specifically, you will:
- Be organised and adaptable, able to respond to changing priorities with confidence.
- Be open to travelling across the region to engage with clinicians in remote and rural locations.
- Prioritise staff wellbeing and foster a culture of safety, resilience, and mutual support.
- Promote a continuous learning environment that supports professional development and innovation.
- Demonstrate strong leadership experience, ensuring operational effectiveness and a positive team culture.
- Build and maintain effective partnerships across agencies, enhancing collaboration and delivering integrated, person-centred care.
Requirements:
- Degree providing eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association/full registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- Eligibility to drive in NSW and travel for work purposes.
