About the Role

  
The purpose of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) position is to provide senior nursing clinical leadership in the development of specialist clinical practice and service delivery within a nursing unit, team or service.
The CNS employs advanced clinical skills and exercises extended autonomy of decision making working closely with managers and other senior clinicians.
  

The ED Navigator plays a vital role in ensuring patients have timely access to emergency care and appropriate referrals to definitive care. Working under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and Nurse Manager, the ED Navigator collaborates closely with the ED medical team and the multidisciplinary team (MDT), exercising autonomy in clinical decision-making.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyse patient length of stay in ED and time to care (TOC).
  • Report relevant data to appropriate committees and follow established escalation processes.
  • Maintain and monitor ED Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Hospital Admission Targets (HAT).
  • Identify and implement strategies to improve patient flow and operational efficiency.
  • Support change management initiatives to enhance the patient journey.
  • Serve as a mentor and clinical resource for ED nursing staff.
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical expertise in emergency nursing and a strong understanding of patient flow and journey processes within the ED.

This role is ideal for a dynamic and experienced emergency nurse who is passionate about improving patient outcomes and operational performance in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal Candidate

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and problem solve to manage the complex clinical care needs of patients through the development and use of clinical management plans.
