The Role
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Grade 2 Custodial Mental Health is responsible for the provision of safe, evidence-based, person-centred care in line with the standards, policies and procedures of the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other statutory authorities.
This care provided utilises the principles of Trauma Informed Care and Recovery and in accordance with the National Practice Standards for Mental Health Workforce and the NSW Health Mental Health Competencies.
The position provides a high standard of care in the assessment and management of mental health issues, as well as discharge planning and transfer of care. The position demonstrates strong clinical leadership in the ongoing development and review of treatment planning and clinical review systems for patients with mental health concerns.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Three years' fulltime experience working in mental health and possesses post-graduate qualifications in mental health, or a combination of equivalent experience and qualifications.
The Location
Bathurst Correctional Centre (BCC) is a mixed-security facility for male offenders. BCC is located 210km west of Sydney, or 3km from the Bathurst town centre. BCC serves as a reception prison for Western NSW. Inmates can also be employed around the complex in services including food, laundry, packing, horticulture, cleaning, and building maintenance.
Through a multi-disciplinary team of between medical, nursing, and allied health professionals, we provide safety for those in custody. We provide educational programs to prepare them for their release. We maintain their wellbeing through effective principles of care
Our Service and Team
Custodial Mental Health (CMH) is a specialist mental health service within the Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network that provides a range of mental health services to adults in NSW correctional centres.
CMH includes a specialist mental health team with mental health nurses (MHNs), nurse practitioners (NPs), Aboriginal Mental Health Clinicians, psychiatrists, career medical officers (CMOs), and psychiatry registrars who are supported by administrative and managerial staff.
CMH clinicians work alongside staff from other clinical streams and CSNSW staff, including Psychology, Offender Services and Programs, and Custodial Operations staff in the provision of mental health services. Mental health services begin at the point of reception and continue through to release from custody or transfer to another correctional centre.
