About the opportunity:
Maitland Hospital is seeking a Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) dedicated to enhancing clinical education within the Emergency Department. In this role, you will focus on promoting evidence based best practice, person-centered, kind and compassionate care, and optimising patient outcomes specific to the Emergency Nursing specialty.
As the CNE for the Emergency Department, you will work closely with the Nurse Unit Manager, Clinical NUMs, other Clinical Nurse Educators and broader key stakeholders to deliver and evaluate education programs tailored to individual and departmental needs. Supported by the team you’ll drive priorities aligned with the Emergency Nursing Framework, Excellence framework, evidence-based practice, and HNELHD’s mentoring and leadership programs.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver and facilitate relevant and robust nursing education in an Emergency Department environment.
- Contribute to the development of colleagues and identify learning needs
- Support less experienced staff and act as preceptor for new staff (when delegated this function)
- Support the orientation of new staff to the Emergency Department
- Provide day to day clinical education support and clinical supervision at the point of care
- Provide 1:1 informal education
- Provide support for skill development in clinical procedures, professional development, clinical policy development and an in-service program for the Emergency Department.
- Implement and evaluate education programs
About you:
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with extensive emergency department experience, able to work across all Models of Care, including Triage and capable of creating a safe and supportive learning environment for both individuals and groups. They will play a key role in fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development, ensuring that educational experiences are engaging, relevant, and tailored to the unique needs of their learners.
Working collaboratively within the CNE team and the broader emergency department team, you will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, facilitating knowledge-sharing and skill development in a dynamic and high-pressure environment. Additionally, you will be adaptable in your teaching and facilitation styles, recognising the varying levels of experience and learning preferences among your colleagues and be adaptable and flexible within that space.
- Current nursing registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with relevant post registration qualifications in education or in the clinical area of critical care or such education and clinical experience deemed appropriate.
