The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Grade 1 Dermatology will provide expert clinical care, coordinating holistic care and linking the child and family into local services.
These duties, for Dermatology, will be carried out in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team including - paediatrician, paediatric dermatologists, social worker, dietician, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, plastic surgeons, oncologists, geneticists and interventional radiologists. The CNC will be the link between the patients/families and the Clinic/Hospital and will ensure the efficient co-ordination of the service.
The CNC will:
- Be the first point of contact within the hospital for new referrals;
- Co-ordinate assessment and treatment for newly diagnosed cases in conjunction with treating specialists and monitor the use of wet dressings in line with best practise;
- Liaise with families in the community and provide education for parents;
- Assist families by ensuring follow-up at appropriate medical/surgical referrals;
- Ensure families have appropriate community support networks whether government or voluntary; and
- Participate in research as appropriate.
- Provide teaching and support to SCHN as well as other LHD’s
- Assist in data collection regarding dermatology patients
- Provide education and provision of care for dermatology patients treated with biologics
What you'll be doing
The Clinical/ Midwifery Nurse Consultant will provide expert clinical care and education to children and their families within a defined specialty.
The role provides a consultancy and educational focus for ward based nurses in the care of children and their families.
In collaboration and consultation with key stakeholders, the Clinical Nurse Consultant will undertake primary responsibility for on-going education, development and evaluation of clinical practice.
- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a minimum of 5 years full time post qualification experience.
- Relevant approved post registration qualification in field of practice or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation
- Proven clinical leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice
- Demonstrated high level communication and inter- personal skills
- Demonstrated participation in the development of clinical practice underpinned by evidence based research
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning
- Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, competency in the use of contemporary information systems
- Ability to apply clinical expertise in consultancy with children and families, with the ability to work independently
