What you'll be doing
As the Clinical Midwife Educator for Maternity Services at Auburn Hospital, you will play a key role in supporting the development of clinical skills and confidence among staff across all areas of Maternity Services. You will be passionate about teaching and learning, with a strong drive to continually expand your own midwifery skills and competencies. You’ll thrive in working closely with students, early career midwives, and new staff, providing guidance, support, and education to foster their professional growth and clinical development.

  • Deliver education, training, and clinical skills assessments
  • Support staff across all maternity areas (e.g. Birth Unit, ANC, Postnatal, Newborn Care)
  • Mentor students, early-career midwives, and new staff
  • Promote high-quality, patient-centred care
  • Stay current with evidence-based practice and updated policies
  • Contribute to a culture of learning and professional growth
  •  Work collaboratively with the education and maternity leadership team

Essential Requirements

  • Qualification: Postgraduate midwifery qualifications relevant to the position
  • Registration: Current and valid registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia  

 

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated extensive clinical experience and postgraduate qualification in Maternity Services and clinical teaching qualification or equivalent or willingness to work towards.
  2. Demonstrated ability to design, implement and evaluate clinical education at the ward or unit level, and provide support and guidance to ensure an appropriately skilled and qualified nursing and midwifery workforce, working within appropriate models of care.
  3. Demonstrated effective and high level communication skills including negotiation and conflict resolutions skills in addition to proven ability to motivate and engage people in the clinical setting.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuous improvement whilst ensuring currency of practice in the relevant specialty.
  5. Demonstrated ability and commitment to collaborative and integrated multidisciplinary teamwork, aimed at building and strengthening partnerships with consumers and key stakeholders to provide best practice service delivery.
  6. Strong commitment to the on-going development/enhancement of midwifery practice within a women centred, multi-disciplinary clinical environment.
  7. Relevant computer skills including database programmes and data entry.
  8. Demonstrated ability to lead and implement change within the context of best practice clinical care and workplace culture.
