About Us

The Primary Care and Community Health Unit consists of 9 centres that provide a range of services for children, young people and their families, adults, older people and their carers. Our services range from health promotion, prevention and early detection through to assessment, treatment and continuing care. Our staff work in partnership with schools, GPs, hospitals, non-government agencies and other organisations to provide care across our centres, in people’s homes, other community venues as well as virtual care (telehealth).

The Child Protection Counselling Service (CPCS) provides specialist tertiary level therapeutic and case management services to children, young people and their parents/caregivers who have been in contact with the statutory child protection system or who are under the age of 10 years and are referred with problematic and harmful sexual behaviours.

On offer is a Permanent Full Time opportunity for a Child Protection Triage Management Counsellor, located at our Lemongrove Campus, Penrith. The Child Protection Triage Management Counsellor is responsible for the triaging and assessment of new referrals to the Child Protection Counselling Service as well as provision of specialist tertiary level therapeutic and case management services.

The successful candidate will be part of a supportive counselling service that fosters ongoing professional development. You will also be provided with substantial internal and external clinical supervision, peer support and cultural supervision to both increase skills and support continued wellbeing in a role that handles much sensitive information. The role also requires participation in the provision of a 24/7 crisis counselling roster.

CPCS is aligned with Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) which develops policy and supports services for children, young people and adults who are victims of violence, abuse or neglect. What you will bring to the role

  1. Degree in Social Work from an accredited course providing eligibility for membership of the Australia Association of Social Workers, or Degree in Psychology with full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia, or Bachelor's Degree in Counselling a recognised and accepted education provider or such other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
  2. Demonstrated high level understanding of the dynamics, intersection and effects of child abuse, neglect, sexual abuse and domestic and family violence.
  3. Demonstrated and extensive experience in carrying out assessment and case management activities and in providing specialist counselling to children and families with proven ability to make independent professional judgements about case planning and clinical management of a complex client group.
  4. Demonstrated extensive experience in delivering best practice models for working individually and systemically with children, young people and adults who have experienced trauma and abuse including experience in holding an overarching trauma informed framework.
  5. Demonstrated experience working with people who have experienced interpersonal and intergenerational trauma.
  6. Demonstrated high level experience/knowledge of Child Protection statutory systems, reporting responsibilities and health role in recognising and responding to child abuse and neglect.
  7. Experience in and commitment to, working with individuals and families from indigenous backgrounds and/or diverse cultural backgrounds.
  8. Current NSW State driver's licence (including P1 or above) and ability to attend Nepean Hospital within 1 hour as required in participation of 24/7 crisis roster.
