We are seeking the services of a Career Medical Officer for our busy Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Team.

The Career Medical Officer is an integral part of the multidisciplinary health care team, providing high quality medical services to patients / clients of the Western NSW Local Health District, in order to meet their health and wellbeing needs.

Our Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services are a critical part of the care we deliver to our local communities. We are at the forefront in the delivery of rural and remote mental health, drug and alcohol services across a catchment area of 400,000 square kilometres with the regional centres of Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst as hubs to provide services both locally and to our more rural and remote towns.

Our vision is to be leaders in the delivery of high quality rural and remote mental health, drug and alcohol services.

With an early intervention and recovery focus, we place the person at the centre of care. We consider individual strengths and value Aboriginal cultural competency in providing evidence-based treatment. We engage in important service partnerships to increase the resilience of individuals, families and communities, aiming to enhance the mental health, social and emotional wellbeing of our local communities.

  1. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent and current authority to practice as a Medical Officer with the Medical Board of Australia (MBA).
  2. Clinical experience in a hospital psychiatry unit within the last two years and demonstrated technical and professional competence in psychiatry.
  3. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills applicable to Australian medical practice.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team, under direction of a Consultant, and ability to recognise own clinical limitations and consult as required.
  5. Ability to equitably participate in the unit on-call roster with other medical practitioners as required and the ability to participate in a rotating roster including night duty.
  6. Demonstrated active participation in and commitment to quality assurance and improvement activities.
  7. Current Licence to drive in NSW.
