Are you an enthusiastic and motivated Recreation Lifestyle Officer who has the desire to enrich the lives of people living with dementia through leisure. Garrawarra Centre is seeking to employ an Allied Health Assistant - Recreation Lifestyle to provide meaningful leisure and social programs for residents who have a primary diagnosis of dementia. This position would be suitable for a person looking for fulltime or part time employment.

Where you'll be working
Garrawarra Centre is an accredited residential aged care facility, located in Waterfall NSW approximately 43 kms south of Sydney and 44kms north of Wollongong.
Garrawarra Centre provides person centred high quality care for people with a primary diagnosis of dementia who exhibit behavioural and psychological symptoms.
All employees at Garrawarra Centre will be required to complete a NDIS worker check at their own expense.

Allied Health Assistants - Recreation Lifestyle play an important role in the provision of quality person centred care at Garrawarra Centre. Working under the direction of Diversional Therapists they provide a variety or leisure and lifestyle programs for residents living with dementia.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.

A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.

In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

Selection Criteria

  1. Experience working in aged care and with people who have dementia
  2. Certificate IV in Leisure and Health or willing to obtain such a qualification
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  4. Ability to work in a team delivering holistic care
  5. Demonstrated understanding of WH&S guidelines
  6. Current First Aid certificate
