What you'll be doing 

The WSLHD Needle and Syringe Program is seeking a dedicated professional to address the specific health needs of Aboriginal people with respect to Hepatitis C prevention and illicit drug use. This role involves program development, cultural expertise, and community advocacy.

In this role you will:

  • Develop, facilitate, and evaluate programs for Aboriginal communities within the Needle and Syringe Program (NSP). 
  • Provide cultural expertise and support to the NSP team and wider Drug Health workforce. 
  • Represent the NSP in promoting Aboriginal health needs within the community. 
  • Deliver outreach services across WSLHD NSP sites. 
  • Focus on prevention and care of blood-borne viruses among injecting drug users.

Selection Criteria

  1. This is an identified Aboriginal position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent. Exemption is claimed under section 14d of the anti-discrimination act 1977.
  2. A minimum of Certificate 3 in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or equivalent and experience as a health worker / health promotion worker in the government or non-government sector
  3. An understanding of Harm Minimisation
  4. Knowledge of blood borne viruses such as HIV, HCV and HBV
  5. Non-judgemental and empathic approach to people who inject drugs
  6. An understanding of Health Promotion and Community development
  7. An ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  8. Experience working with marginalised groups within a Needle and Syringe Program (NSP) or other relevant service.
  9. Current NSW Driver’s Licence
