About the role:

Moree Community Health Service is seeking a committed Aboriginal Health Worker / Practitioner to join our Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Health Service (AMIHS) team. As part of the AMIHS team, you will provide culturally safe, community-based care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, and women expecting an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander baby. This includes support throughout pregnancy, postnatal care, and up to 8 weeks after birth.

You will:

  • Deliver culturally appropriate care and education to women and families in Moree, and through outreach clinics in Mungindi and Collarenebri.

  • Work collaboratively with the Community Health team, Moree Hospital Maternity Service, child and family health services, local medical services, and other relevant agencies.

  • Support women through home visits and care in community settings, ensuring accessible and trusted services.

  • Participate in the Initial Maternity Assessment Program (IMAP) clinics, which are delivered with specialist input from John Hunter Hospital.

  • Be involved in the care of high-risk pregnancies through engagement in Maternal Foetal Medicine (MFM) clinics, enhancing outcomes for both mothers and babies.

  • Work closely with families and community members to improve Aboriginal maternal and perinatal health outcomes.


Where you’ll be working:

Based at Moree Community Health Service, you’ll work in partnership with Moree Hospital Maternity Service, local GPs and medical services, and visiting specialists. The role includes travel to outreach clinics in Mungindi and Collarenebri. You’ll also contribute to IMAP and high-risk Maternal Fetal Medicine clinics, in collaboration with specialists from John Hunter Hospital.

  • Can collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Is committed to learning and growing in the space of maternal and infant health.

 

Requirements:

  • Holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification with a desire to complete a Certificate IV Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) or other relevant health qualification deemed appropriate by the manager, following appointment to the position through supported education, training and study leave.

  • To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport.
