Selection Criteria

  1. Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage (NB applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW) and have established links with their local Aboriginal community.
  2. Hold a minimum Certificate IV Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) and current Authority to Practice as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA).
  3. Have an understanding of the factors and impact these factors have on Aboriginal people and their health outcomes. Factors include Australian history social-economic influences, complexities of chronic disease and preventable lifestyle illnesses.
  4. Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, and effectively communicate, collaborate and consult with both colleagues and members of the Aboriginal community.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate health promotion and education initiatives.
  6. Demonstrated capability to use computer programs required to plan, deliver and document patient care.
  7. Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers’ licence. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015 All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
