Royal North Shore Hospital is a principal tertiary referral hospital for Northern Sydney Local Health District providing a comprehensive range of complex services to patients from across NSW. What you'll be doing

The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of surgical patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The Neurosurgery unaccredited trainee is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality.
 
Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the Neurosurgery unaccredited trainee’s skills, knowledge and experience. They will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding a patient’s care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care. The Unaccredited Neurosurgery Trainee will share terms across both Royal North Shore Hospital and at North Shore Private Hospital. The positions are full time, Monday to Friday with rostered on-call on the Neurosurgery Trainee roster (with supervision.) The role will predominantly be to support the SET Trainees in assessment of emergency patients, seeing consults and assisting in the operating theatres as well as the routine functioning of the unit.
 
At NSPH the Trainee will predominantly function as a surgical assistant, the Trainee will attend meetings at RNSH as well as participating in the RNSH Outpatient Clinic. In addition the Trainee will be expected to participate in the day-to-day managements of the neurosurgery patients at NSP, particularly in the ICU.
