Liverpool Hospital is recruiting for a Unaccredited Trainee to complement and enhance the current Neurosurgery department.

Where You'll Be Working

Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

                                

The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

                  

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the University of NSW and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.


What you'll be doing

Full time principle responsibility in the Neurosurgical Unit. Responsibility for the management of inpatient and outpatients with a broad range of neurosurgical diseases. The Unaccredited Trainee will receive hands on training in performing cranial, spinal (both simple and complex) and peripheral nerve surgery. Opportunities for research are encouraged.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. At least three years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent)
  3. Demonstrated prior clinical neurosurgical experience. Proven ability to use sound neurosurgical clinical judgment under pressure with multiple competing priorities.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency) and judgment and expertise.
  5. Demonstrated interest in neurosurgical clinical issues, research and teaching of junior medical officers. Appropriate progress toward career goals.
  6. Demonstrated good organisational, time management skills and commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  7. Demonstrates teamwork and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team.
