The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.
Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Services is a major teaching hospital and tertiary referral centre, providing excellent healthcare to south-eastern Sydney and specialist health and medical services to NSW.
We have 450 inpatient beds and almost 3,000 staff. Each year we care for more than 60,000 patients in our Emergency Department and around 50,000 patients are admitted to the inpatient units of our hospital. We also have a busy outpatient service and rural outreach service and provide more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year.
Our hospital is affiliated with various Universities and premier medical teaching facilities which enables our staff to provide excellence in healthcare in conjunction with our commitment to quality clinical teaching and leading medical research.
What you'll be doing
Our Neurosurgical Registrars will ensure comprehensive and effective clinical management of neurosurgical patients, performing or assisting in complex neurosurgical operations under appropriate senior medical supervision. Registrars will concurrently advance their clinical acumen and expertise within a challenging and multifaceted clinical environment. As essential members of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, registrars frequently handle clinical matters that are urgent, sensitive, or intricate, requiring exceptional judgement, professional discretion, sensitivity, and unwavering adherence to patient confidentiality.
Clinical decision-making and supervision shall be appropriately calibrated to reflect the individual registrar’s evolving competencies, knowledge base, and practical experience. Registrars will be progressively expected to exercise greater autonomy and independent judgement in patient management, in alignment with their professional development trajectory, while always operating under the oversight and direction of the designated Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients receiving care within the health service hospitals remain under the ultimate authority and direct clinical oversight of a specialist medical practitioner. Consequently, registrars must ensure transparent, timely, and comprehensive communication regarding all patient-care decisions and treatment plans with the responsible specialist, to facilitate continuity of care and optimise patient outcomes.
SESLHD is committed to creating a workplace that reflects the diversity of our community. This will help ensure our employees, our patients and their carers, feel supported. We encourage people from different backgrounds to apply.
We welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates and we have an Aboriginal Employment Consultant that can provide support. If you have any questions or would like guidance on the recruitment process, please contact the SESLHD Aboriginal Employment Team via email to: SESLHD-AboriginalWorkforce@health.nsw.gov.au.
