Byron Central Hospital (primary) with rotation opportunities to Tweed Valley & Murwillumbah Central Hospitals

The Role 

 

The Tweed Valley Department of Medicine is seeking dedicated Unaccredited Medical Registrars to join Byron Central Hospital in 2026. This program offers a full 12-month experience at Byron Central Hospital, which will be your primary site. Positions can include flexible 3 month rotations to Tweed Valley Hospital (including subspecialities) or Murwillumbah District Hospital, depending on your interests and career goals. 

 

We understand every doctor's career journey is unique, and we can be flexible to meet your needs. We'll discuss your preferences for rotations and facilities during the interview process, with final placements confirmed upon acceptance. 

 

You'll join a close-knit team of 3 doctors working collaboratively on a 7-day roster, working 10-hour shifts with 3 days off per week to enjoy your downtime. Responsibilities are shared equally amongst the team, including on-call responsibilities until 21:00. You’ll be supervised and supported by a full time staff specialist.

What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the Unaccredited Trainee in General Medicine is to provide safe and high quality care, assess and manage, under supervision, Medical patients. The trainee needs to be aware of their limitations and work in a collegiate and collaborate manner.
 
Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the trainee’s skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role (please address these in your response)
  2. Adept ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise
  3. Adept ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services
  4. Proficient verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences
  5. Sound ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment
  6. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
  7. Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of Adult Internal Medicine
