What you’ll be doing

St George Hospital is part of the LAN 3 (NSW) Radiology Training Network (also known as the Southern NSW Radiology Training Network), one of the largest Radiology training networks in Australia and New Zealand.

We provide a 5-year training program in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, leading to accreditation as a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) and the ability to practice as a RANZCR qualified Radiologist.

Our trainees gain significant radiological work experience and training in a variety of medical imaging modalities (eg X-ray, Ultrasound, CT, fluoroscopy, and MRI) and radiological subspecialties.

Our LAN 3 network encompasses the following RANZCR accredited and linked training sites, exposing trainees to a broad mix of metropolitan, rural, public and private settings across NSW:

·         St George Hospital in Kogarah, Sydney

·         The Prince of Wales Hospital & Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick,

·         Liverpool Hospital, Campbelltown Hospital, Bankstown Hospital, and Children’s Hospital at Westmead) in South West Sydney

·         St Vincent's Hospital in Darlinghurst, Sydney

·         Wollongong Hospital in southern NSW

·         Regional Imaging (Wagga) in Wagga Wagga, NSW

St George Hospital and Health Services is an accredited, principal teaching hospital of the University of New South Wales. It is the largest hospital within South Eastern Sydney Local Health District with 627 inpatient beds. St George Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Centre and a leading centre for trauma and emergency management in NSW. The hospital’s proximity to Sydney airport makes it a vital service providing first response to the airport precinct.

The hospital is in Kogarah, 14 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD. It is well serviced by buses, trains and major roads.   1. MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Minimum of two years postgraduate experience at start of training (ie. PGY 3 or above), preferably with recent clinical practice - including emergency medical care, after hours rostered duties and procedural work.
  3. Demonstrated interest in Radiology and evidence of preparation for RANZCR Radiology training and preferably some prior experience in Radiology or related areas e.g. Nuclear Medicine..
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a complex health care setting with proven time management, analytical and reasoning skills, and good common routine procedural skills
  5. Excellent written, verbal and multimedia communication skills, in order to interact effectively with patients, referrers, colleagues and other team members.
  6. Understanding and promotion of collaborative effort and empathy within a heterogeneous team environment such as a radiology department.
  7. Understanding quality improvement principles, audit, implementation of practice improvement initiatives and commitment to continuing professional development.
  8. Experience in a broad spectrum of clinical disciplines prior to undertaking radiology training. Experience and a demonstrated interest in undertaking relevant research projects
