Trainee Clinical Coder

About the role
The Trainee Clinical Coder position offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in clinical coding within the Western NSW Local Health District. The role involves learning to accurately assign codes to patient records using national coding standards, supporting high-quality health data, and contributing to effective patient care.

This role requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, basic knowledge of medical terminology, good computer literacy, effective communication, and a commitment to ongoing learning. The position operates during standard business hours.

A typical workday includes reviewing records, assigning appropriate codes, raising queries when documentation is unclear, participating in education sessions the Trainees work closely with the Clinical Coder Educator /Auditor.

Support is provided through a structured orientation, mentorship, regular feedback, and opportunities to rotate across facilities to gain experience with a variety of coding cases. This ensures the Trainee develops both confidence and competence in clinical coding.
