The Coffs Harbour anaesthetic department has a supportive and collegiate approach to trainees. The department is accredited for 2 full years of anaesthetic training in addition to the full year of PF training. A busy and challenging work environment is supported by two dedicated SOTs, with a strong focus on supporting trainee education and wellbeing. With 7 ANZCA trainees, a provisional fellow, and non-ANZCA trainees (including ED, ICU, CCSRMO and RMO’s) rotating through the department, a culture of curiosity, collaboration and inclusion is promoted. The Coffs Harbour Health Campus is an acute regional teaching hospital with 355 beds, located in the hub of the spectacular Mid-North Coast, on the lands of the Gumbaynggirr people. Geographically located midway between Sydney and Brisbane with a population of over 73,000 and a catchment of over 100,000. To the north and south of Coffs Harbour are endless beaches and the Solitary Islands Marine Park lies adjacent to the harbour. The area is flanked to the west by World Heritage rain forests and the National Parks of the Dorrigo plateau and the Bellingen Valley.
Coffs Harbour Health Campus facilities and services include operating theatres, a Coronary Care Unit (including Coronary Angiography Suite), an Intensive Care Unit, a 24-hour Emergency Department, Radiology (including CT, MRI and Interventional Suite), Pathology North, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Anaesthetics, Rehabilitation and a Stroke Unit. There is also access to outpatient services such as the Ambulatory Care Unit, Renal Dialysis Unit, Dental Services and a Refugee Clinic.
Also situated on the grounds of Coffs Harbour Health Campus are the Aboriginal and Cultural Wellbeing Centre (Maam Darruyaygamba), Mid North Coast Cancer Institute (haematology, medical oncology and radiation oncology facilities), Mental Health Unit, BreastScreen, the Specialist Medical Centre and University of NSW Regional Medical School.
Our Emergency Department (ED) is the largest non-tertiary trauma centre outside Brisbane and Sydney, with more than 46,485 presentations in 2023. Our Obstetric unit delivered 996 babies and the hospital had more than 33,000 admissions.
Coffs Harbour Health Campus is the hub of the Coffs Clinical Network which also includes smaller facilities such as the Bellinger River Hospital and Macksville District hospitals, Bowraville and Nambucca HealthOne facilities and Dorrigo Multi-Purpose Service (MPS).
A recent redevelopment of Coffs Harbour Health Campus also saw the opening of the new state-of the-art Clinical Services Building in 2021 consisting of 10 operating theatres, surgical departments, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and an Intensive Care Unit.
- To provide effective anaesthetic services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in clinical practice, in a complex clinical environment.
- The Coffs Harbour Health Campus facility is an acute regional hospital with a 292 bed capacity. The campus offers a wide range of services in general medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics, paediatrics, rehabilitation and intensive care. Other specialist services available include the acute stroke unit, coronary angiography unit, renal unit, mental health unit and oncology and radiotherapy services within the North Coast Cancer Institute
- On-site there are specialists in the following disciplines: General Medicine,Cardiology, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Orthopaedics, Anaesthetics, ENT, O&G, Urology, Ophthalmology, Rheumatology,
- Rehabilitation, Palliative Care, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Psychiatry, Pathology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Haematology, Renal Medicine. Also there are visiting specialists in Neurosurgery, Endocrine Surgery and Paediatric Surgery.
- The Emergency Department (ED) supply emergency services to the immediate Coffs Harbour area and is a referral centre for the district hospitals in the region – it is the largest trauma centre outside Brisbane and Sydney – seeing more than 36000 patients per year.
- The Emergency Department participates in the area Critical Care network supplying a road-based retrieval service to the three district hospitals – Bellingen, Dorrigo and Macksville that are also located within the Local Health District.
