Manning Base Hospital - Taree

About the role  

Wingham community hospital is a 16 bed sub-acute Rehabilitation Unit which provides comprehensive inpatient adult Rehabilitation services to patients with stroke, chronic spinal injury, amputee, Orthopaedic case mix ranging from multi-trauma to elective/ traumatic joint replacement, neurological rehab, deconditioning following medical/surgical illness.  

 

The Rehabilitation team comprises of a Resident Medical Officer, experienced physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, dietician, social worker, allied health assistants. The rehabilitation program is established with patient oriented SMART goals under supervision of a Rehabilitation Physician. 

 

The Rehabilitation Trainee provides effective medical services to patients admitted or in the process to be admitted to the Rehabilitation Services under supervision of the specialist in a complex clinical environment. The Trainee will also be responsible for supervision of the Resident Medical Officer and Medical Students. 

    

This is an Accredited position with the Australian Faculty (AFRM) of Rehabilitation Medicine which is a Faculty of the Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).  

 

The Doctor will receive full direct supervision and support from the Department Consultant. As such daily supervision is available at any time. Supervision is provided by the Rehabilitation Physician 4 days a week and the Trainee would be required to work unsupervised on 1 -2 days a week. The Trainee is able to contact the specialist on phone for any urgent queries.  

 

Participation in an on call roster may be expected on an equitable basis.

Manning Hospital consists of 180 beds and, within, provides an excellent range of other specialist inpatient services including Emergency Medicine, Palliative Care, General Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Psychiatry, Renal, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anaesthesia, Rehabilitation Services, Urology and Oncology Services to the local communities of Taree, Forster, Tuncurry and surrounding Lower Mid North Coast.  

Manning Base Hospital treats approximately 25,000 inpatients, 33,000 Emergency Department patients and 90,700 outpatients each year. 

With a population of over 90,300 and with the median age of 52 years old the Lower Mid North Coast Sector is projected to have the highest growth in the group age of 85 years and over.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. A minimum of three full years of postgraduate experience with recent experience in the field of General and or Rehabilitation Medicine.
  3. Demonstrated recent relevant experience in clinical medicine and ability to work in a complex clinical environment.
  4. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills in dealings with patients, team members and supervisors.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning, teaching, research, quality improvement and/or clinical leadership in medicine.
  6. Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem-solving skills in a clinical setting within a multidisciplinary team.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  8. Proven ability to apply clinical knowledge and concepts in practical situations in the context of multiple competing priorities.
