ort Macquarie Base Hospital is accredited for 24 months of ANZCA training and is part of the Port Macquarie Training Scheme which incudes rotations to PMBH ICU, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Westmead Children's Hospital and The Wollongong Hospital.
PMBH is a 195-bed, role delineation 5, public teaching hospital servicing a growing population of approximately 215,000.
The hospital offers a comprehensive range of surgical activities, across 9 operating theatres, including vascular, liver, upper GI and colorectal surgery, complex laparoscopic and general urology, visiting ENT(Adult and Paediatric), dental, maxillofacial, orthopaedic, O and G, ophthalmology, cardiology, ERCP and interventional radiology services.
The Department of Anaesthesia provides a high quality Acute Pain Service and has high regional anaesthesia demand, providing 2290 regional anaesthesia episodes per year.
Port Macquarie Base Hospital has a 16-bed ICU accredited for Limited General Training (G6) Rural. Diagnostic facilities include on-site CT scanning, MRI and pathology services.
PMBH provides immediate support to Wauchope District Memorial Hospital and Kempsey District Hospital. Patients are transferred for tertiary trauma care, RNSH is the default tertiary hospital for critical care, neurosurgery, burns and spinal services, JHH is the default regional trauna centre.
The UNSW Rural Clinical School is adjacent to hospital grounds and provides teaching and research opportunities.

This PD covers both hospitals offering accredited ‘Scheme’ (commonly 3-4 years) and ‘Independent’ (commonly 1-2 years) contracts. Offers of Scheme contracts will be based on the competitive application process, taking into account applicant preferences, with Independent contracts using the same process
