Position Trainee

Minimum 1-year experience in Anaesthetics and must hold General Registration.

The Role 

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an Anaesthetic Trainee. You will be part of a supportive, collegiate department, consisting of 40 VMO Specialists and 14 Registrars. You will have opportunity to both work under supervision and run your own lists, supervising juniorsThere will be the opportunity to consolidate your anaesthesia practice across the spectrum, as well as pursuing special interests. Opportunities exist to be part of ongoing research and quality projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Tweed Valley Hospital, your primary work location and a new, major referral hospital at the heart of the network of hospitals and health facilities across the Tweed-Byron region, also including Murwillumbah District & Byron Central Hospitals.  The 723.3 million state-of-the-art hospital opened on 14 May 2024 and will deliver additional health services and bed capacity to meet the growing community's healthcare needs.

What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the Trainee in Anaesthetics is to assist in the provision of anaesthetic services in a complex clinical environment, whilst under supervision as part of the Anaesthetics Team. Trainees are expected to demonstrate a level of knowledge and skills commensurate with their clinical experience and according to ANZCA guidelines.  Clinical practice will be across key areas of anaesthetics, including:
• anaesthesia and sedation
• regional anaesthesia
• airway management
• pain medicine
• perioperative medicine
• resuscitation
• trauma and crisis management
The anaesthetic trainee provides anaesthetic services to all surgical and procedural specialties operating at NNSWLHD Hospitals, including preoperative assessment and consultation. Anaesthetic staff provide an acute pain service to patients in the hospitals, in addition to support for resuscitation, after hours onsite service for the ICU and wards.
When rostered in the capacity of the overnight Night Trainee the anaesthetic trainee will be the most senior anaesthetics medical officer rostered on site overnight at NNSWLHD Hospitals, with the responsibility for providing initial anaesthetic care to patients across the hospital.
  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role (please address these in your response).
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with appropriate independence, commensurate with a level of a Specialist Trainee, within a supervised complex clinical environment.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
  4. Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience.
  5. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
  6. Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  7. Advanced ability to remain calm and act constructively when faced with high pressure situations or unpredictable environments.
  8. Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
