A typical day or week in this role is best described as fast in pace, which best allows for the smooth running of theatres for our patients.

When not in a supervisory role, you will perform routine reprocessing and specialty tasks, as well as assisting with the delivery of education and mentoring of Sterilising Technicians Grade 1 and 2 to help drive a collaborative and cohesive department.

You will be supported professionally by your Direct Line Manager, who you will meet with to discuss an individual education and professional development plan as is appropriate to your current skill set.

Where you’ll be working:

Kurri Kurri District Hospital is a lovely rural hospital that provides contemporary care to our communities. The hospital’s theatres are best known for their high standard work in providing efficient access and care to those who are requiring ophthalmology and ear, nose and throat surgical procedures. Equipped with advanced technology with plans for further improvements in this area, working in our Central Sterile Services Department is very exciting!

Our sterilisation team is best described as friendly, efficient, and very good at what they do! Our people are kind, committed and spend their workdays together enjoying the high output of work we achieve whilst also leading with compassion and humour.

We work alongside our clinical staff to ensure that our service is efficient, reliable and safe in the care that we provide our patients.

About You:

As your role provides supervision and undertakes routine reprocessing when not in a supervisory role, it is important that you have clear experience working within the Central Sterile Services Department speciality as well as strong demonstrated leadership skills.

As a leader, you are expected to support the Manager and Co-Ordinators in the provision of sterilisation services and safe delivery of reusable medical devices to all customers of the Central Sterilising Department.

You will be required to oversee and ensure all processes within the sterilising service are carried out as directed, and in accordance with AS/NZS 4187:2014 and organisation and departmental policy and procedure. You will need a very good understanding of infection control policies, governing standards and guidelines and organisation policy and procedure.
