Selection Criteria for the position:

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in Neonatal medicine, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  2. Demonstrated clinical experience in Neonatal medicine including managing newborns with surgical and cardiac condition.
  3. Demonstrated experience in neonatal neuro-developmental follow-up. Detailed knowledge of the neonatal network within New South Wales including the roles of each of the units, usual referral mechanisms and the ability to negotiate the best placement of patients if and when neonatal beds are limited. Detailed knowledge of the role and function of the Newborn and Paediatric Emergency Transport Service (NETS).
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team
  5. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
  7. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time

Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.

The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience.  The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health.  The academic title will be held for the  duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment.  No remuneration is attached to the University appointment.  The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.
