  1. MBBS or equivalent, and specialist qualifications in public health, infectious diseases or similar (eg FAFPHM, FRACP or equivalent), and currently registered or eligible for general and specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Demonstrated familiarity with the biomedical literature, relevant bibliographic databases (eg Medline, Cochrane Library), familiarity of methods of systematic literature review and framework for evidence-informed development of clinical practice guidelines health intervensions or population health policies (e.g. GRADE), and skills in the use of relevant computer packages including Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) and EndNote (or equivalent).
  3. Demonstrated understanding of public health, especially issues relevant to immunisation policy and practice at local, state, national and global level.
  4. Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching and training of staff, professional trainees and students.
  5. Experience in a leadership role in a multidisciplinary team environment in a public health setting or public clinical service.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including scientific writing skills, and demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals, external experts and government staff.
  7. Understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to prepare research proposals and undertake research and have demonstrated knowledge or experience in analysis or interpretation of epidemiological data.
  8. Experience or extensive knowledge of vaccine preventable diseases and vaccines, public health practice, and the Australian health care system and services.

The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience.  The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health.  The academic title will be held for the  duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment.  No remuneration is attached to the University appointment.  The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.
