An excellent opportunity is available for a senior speech pathologist to join the speech pathology team at Royal North Shore Hospital. This permanent part-time/ job share speech pathology position will provide a service to the adult acute aged care and generalist wards at RNSH Hospital, as well as spinal and adult outpatients as allocated.

The Speech Pathology Department at Royal North Shore Hospital

What you'll be doing
The main purpose of this position is to provide evidence-based assessment and intervention for inpatients with swallowing and communication disorders within the acute wards at RNSH.

This position will support the speech pathology team through delivery of services and interventions in the aged care, generalist, and spinal caseloads in addition to other clinical areas of practice to meet the demands of the hospital. This position provides direct supervision to less experienced clinicians and is the clinical lead in the area of aged care, generalist and spinal speech pathology cover.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. A bachelor or post graduate degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia. Evidence of extensive clinical experience, inclusive of experience as a Level 2 Speech Pathologist or equivalent.
  2. Demonstrated current and extensive clinical knowledge, expertise and advanced skill in the management of adult dysphagia and communication disorders in the area of acute aged care and generalist caseloads.
  3. Demonstrated extensive skills and knowledge in instrumental assessment of swallowing, including VFSS & FEES.
  4. Special interest in speech pathology management of patients with spinal cord injury or a willingness to further develop skills in this area.
  5. Evidence of proficient written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the proven ability to liaise with novice and experienced health professionals and external service providers. Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to use health information systems.
  6. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement activities or service evaluation process. Experience in clinical teaching and supervision of students, level 1/2 Allied Health Professionals and/or Allied Health Assistants.
  7. Demonstrated proficiency in ability to work autonomously with limited supervision. Have the ability to prioritise work, manage a demanding workload, apply high level reasoning skills and have independent professional judgement.
