Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the state, from Goulburn and Crookwell to the Victorian border, and surrounds the ACT on three sides, a total of 44 537sq kms.  It extends from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast, the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Great Dividing Range and the spectacular Snowy Mountains.

Southern NSWLHD comprises of 2 Networks - Inlands centred around Goulburn, Monaro, Queanbeyan and Cooma, AND Coastal centered around Bega, Batemans Bay and Moruya in the far south-east corner of NSW and the Integrated Care Network.

Where you'll be working

Goulburn Base Hospital is in Southern NSW LHD, approximately 2 hours from Sydney (195 kms) and 1 hour from Canberra (90 kms). Goulburn was established as Australia's first inland city in 1863, is located in the Southern Tablelands and has a population of approximately 30,000. It is situated on Gundungurra and Ngunnawal lands. Today, it is a relaxed country town, home to the Big Merino (the world’s largest concrete sheep), the Lieder Theatre Company (Australia’s oldest theatre company) and the famous Trapper’s Bakery.

The hospital is located in a new Clinical Services Building and has approximately 100 beds. The ED has a Level 4 role delineation and has 2 resuscitation beds, 6 acute beds (including 2 isolation rooms), and a fast-track area. The footprint includes an area for future expansion as a 4 bedded EDSSU. The department is led by FACEMs, FACRRMs and GP VMOs with expertise in Emergency Medicine. A typical day in the ED sees 60-70 undifferentiated patients (adult and paediatric; about 22,000 patients per year), with significant acuity and complexity across a wide range of conditions, including some trauma. The Canberra Hospital is the nearest Tertiary referral centre. Goulburn Base Hospital is the regional referral centre for the Level 3 and Level 2 facilities in the Inland Network of Southern NSW LHD.

The ED is well supported by hospital services including a Level 4 ICU with 24/7 on site staffing, Anaesthetics with 24/7 Anaesthetic cover, General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Paediatrics, Maternity and Rehabilitation Medicine. Mental Health is also situated on the Goulburn Hospital campus, in the Chisholm Ross Centre. The hospital has a close academic and training partnership with the ANU Rural Clinical School, and a newly opened educational and high-fidelity simulation facility is on the Goulburn Hospital campus, which is regularly used for teaching sessions. The hospital is currently accredited for JMO training, ACRRM and RACGP training. Work is underway to expand training into EMET and ACEM programs.
