What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the Paediatric SRMO in Paediatrics and Neonatology at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals is to provide effective clinical management of infants, children and adolescents, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing a foundation within Paediatric and Neonatal practice. The Paediatric SRMO is a key member of the Paediatrics Team who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality.
The Paediatric SRMO will always have a more senior Paediatric doctor on-site during shifts. The SRMO will be working as part of a team to provide holistic medical care for Paediatric and Neonatal inpatients. The SRMO is also expected to review patients in Ambulatory Care clinics at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital (BMDH). Paediatric SRMO will have the opportunity to rotate across 3 sites within BMDH; namely, the Paediatric unit at Mount Druitt Hospital, the Paediatric unit at Blacktown Hospital and the Special Care Nursery at Blacktown Hospital. Through these rotations, the Paediatric SRMO will be exposed to common and complex Paediatric diseases, management of vulnerable/at-risk children, management of neonatal conditions, in addition to familiarisation around community services, nutrition and developmental problems relating to child health, in a supportive environment.
Paediatric SRMOs will be required to work normal hours, as appropriate for the particular clinical service allocated; this will include shift work. Paediatric SRMOs will also be required to work reasonable rostered overtime hours as required by the clinical service; this includes being available for patient handover.
This position is not accredited for training with the RACP.
