Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated Senior Resident Medical Officer in Neurosurgery to enhance their surgical career with the Team at Concord Hospital
What you will be doing
This position is an SRMO position for 12 months in the Department of Neurosurgery. This would suit a medical officer with a strong interest in surgery, spine surgery or neurosurgery. You will be involved in the care and management of Neurosurgery inpatients as well as attend Neurosurgery outpatient clinics. The position involves attending operations and being on a 1:3 unaccredited trainee on call roster.
You will be engaged in unit governance activities. Opportunities will be provided for supervised learning neurosurgical procedures suitable for SRMO or junior trainee level.
There are excellent opportunities for supervised research projects. The unit provides structured teaching and multidisciplinary meetings.
The Department of Neurosurgery
The Neurosurgery Department comprises 3 consultants who provide an inpatient and outpatient Neurosurgical service, treating intracranial, spinal and peripheral nerve disorders. The department has a particular interest in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery, brain tumour surgery, pituitary surgery, skull base surgery, treatment of CSF disorders and trigeminal neuralgia. The department also serves as a tertiary referral centre for Canterbury Hospital.

Concord Repatriation General Hospital is a principal referral facility and a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. We offer a comprehensive range of specialty and sub-specialty services, many recognised nationally and internationally as Centre’s of excellence. Major services include colorectal and laparoscopic surgery, gastroenterology, geriatrics and rehabilitation medicine, bone and joint services, cancer services, haematology, respiratory medicine and sleep studies, molecular biology and genetics, and those provided through the internationally acknowledged Statewide Burns Service, in which Concord plays a major part. Concord Hospital maintains string links to the veteran community.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Preference will be given to prior Neurosurgery Trainee experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a complex clinical environment.
- Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills in the clinical setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Preparedness and ability to work independently in a supervised environment.
- Current and ongoing research in areas reflected in the Sydney LHD.
- Minimum 2 years of postgraduate experience.
