The Maitland Hospital
Maitland Hospital has been built to provide patients with high quality care in a modern and comfortable environment and it embraces technology and innovation, allowing staff new, improved ways to work that will deliver better health outcomes. The Maitland Hospital offers a comprehensive range of services including maternity, gynaecology, paediatrics and special care nursery, medical service and rehabilitation, surgery, orthopaedics and day surgery. We have a busy emergency department and an adult intensive care unit as well as mental health, dental, renal and diagnostic services onsite.
Maitland Hospital is located approximately 15 minutes from the Hunter Expressway, 25 minutes from John Hunter Hospital and central Newcastle and in close proximity to the New England Highway and other major link roads.
SRMOs working at The Maitland Hospital will be working in the General Medicine, Cardiology, Rehab/Geriatrics, Oncology, ICU and Emergency Departments.

SRMOs working at Belmont Hospital will be working in General Medicine and Emergency Department.
John Hunter Hospital
John Hunter Hospital is a major teaching hospital and is the Primary Tertiary Referral Centre for Trauma in northern NSW, covering all surgical specialties including Cardiothoracic. It includes John Hunter Children’s Hospital, one of the three tertiary Paediatric hospitals in the state.

John Hunter Hospital – General Medicine
General Medicine outpatient services for people with complex general medical problems are available and provided by our general physicians.
John Hunter Hospital – Subspeciality
The sub speciality departments in the John Hunter Hospital provide inpatient and outpatient care, that includes both diagnosis and treatment of rare and common conditions. Working closely with multi-disciplinary teams contributing within a team treating patients will be top priority for the SRMO.
World renowned clinical research, with staff members have either academic or clinical teaching appointments in the Faculty of Health at the University of Newcastle.
John Hunter Hospital Emergency Department
Our Emergency Department is the busiest tertiary referral centre in the state and the only trauma referral centre in NSW outside of Sydney.
Our specialist staff are focused on meeting the needs of acutely ill and injured patients, providing care for both adult and paediatric patients throughout Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Northern NSW.
Connected to the Emergency Department is an eight bed short stay unit for emergency patients requiring further observation and assessment.
Accredited with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine for both adult and paediatric emergency medicine training and has a multidisciplinary team, including expert medical, nursing, allied health, administrative and support staff.

What you'll be doing:
Applicants with Provisional or Limited medical board registration are required to have Level 2 supervision.
Start Date for this role commences 2nd February 2026.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Minimum 2 years post graduate experience which includes 12 months experience working as a medical officer in an Australian Public Hospital or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
- Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to modify communication style to suit audience.
- Evidence of commitment to self-education and continued professional development with experience in teaching.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
- Ability to work at the facilities within the Network (Greater Newcastle Area) to deliver patient care and preparedness and ability to participate in a 24 hrs shift work roster.
