An exciting opportunity exists to join the Obstetric & Gynaecology Department for 6 months and the Paediatric Department for 6 months at Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital.

Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy rural hospital which employs over 1,000 staff and is the main acute care hospital for the Shoalhaven region, providing emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services. Shoalhaven Hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on high dependency and coronary patients, Children’s Ward and Maternity Unit as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre and sub-acute Mental Health Unit.

What you'll be doing
The SRMO will spend half the year in Paediatrics and half the year in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.  As a member of the O&G team, you will provide care in the Antenatal and Postnatal Wards and participate in Acute Delivery Suite duties, while working with Registrars and Consultants. You also have the opportunity to gain experience in Antenatal Clinics, Gynaecology Outpatients and Theatre, and participate in the departmental teaching program. 
  
The SRMO will, under supervision, provide effective, safe and timely medical services to patients including the assessment and management of paediatric and adult patients in the Neonatal Unit, Birthing Unit, Children's Ward, Paediatric Assessment Unit, Antenatal Clinic and Emergency Department.

This position is suited to trainees who may wish to  pursue a career in General Practice, Paediatrics or Obstetrics or an experienced SRMO seeking a new opportunity within the Department.
  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  2. At least two years working as a Medical Officer, completing a Paediatric rotation is preferable
  3. Demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career pathway involving paediatric medicine. This may include previous clinical paediatric experience, completion of or plan to undertake any courses in paediatric medical care.
  4. Ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment.
  5. Demonstrated experience in taking comprehensive patient histories, performing clinical examinations and accurately documenting in patient records.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the appropriate management of the patient.
  7. Ability to demonstrate accurate decision-making and to seek further advice in accordance with level of experience and showing an awareness of limitations.
  8. Proven ability to organise, plan and manage competing tasks
