What you'll be doing
The Senior Speech Pathologist has a recognised clinical specialty within paediatric speech pathology in providing early intervention providing early intervention services and support. The clinician provides direct clinical services, in collaboration with the other multidiscipline services, and is responsible for implementing specific quality initiatives in collaboration with the Speech Pathology Team Leader and other staff. The position is part of a large paediatric speech pathology team that works collaboratively with a broader multidiscipline team. Full participation in quality processes, clinical supervision and professional development is an integral expectation within this role.
The Senior Speech Pathologist is able to provide clinical services to client groups and operate in circumstances of a complex nature requiring advanced practice skills. The clinician is able to demonstrate advanced reasoning skills and operate autonomously with minimal direct clinical supervision. The Senior Speech Pathologist is involved with the planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting on clinical services for their clinical specialty. The Level 3 Clinician has a consultative role within their area of expertise. They may also conduct clinical research and participate in the provision of clinical in-service education programs to staff and students. The clinician may be delegated an operational/supervisory role under the direction of the Speech Pathology Team Leader or delegate and may be required to manage specific tasks or projects.

- Extensive post graduate clinical experience in managing paediatric clients with communication impairments and managing early intervention in paediatric speech pathology
- Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels
- Ability to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature
- Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning
- Driver’s license
