If you answered yes to the above, then the Pathways to Community Living Initiative (PCLI) team is looking for you. PCLI is seeking an enthusiastic senior peer worker to work as part of our highly skilled and specialised district wide MH team.
About the Opportunity
The role involves mix of leadership responsibilities and direct consumer worker to support consumers with complex mental and health care needs. The position will lead peer worker service delivery within the PCLI team in SWSLHD.
What You'll be Doing
The Pathways to Community Living Initiative (PCLI) is a coordinated state-wide approach to supporting people with enduring and serious mental illness who have been in hospital for more than twelve months to, wherever possible, re-establish their lives in the community.
This position is part of the SWSLHD district PCLI team. The position will work across inpatient and community mental health services to provide lived experience engagement and support for consumers identified through the PCLI program. The senior role includes group and individual peer support, advocacy and education activities, recreation and recovery interventions aimed at social inclusion and community development. As a senior peer worker, you will be involved in the supervision of other peers and be a part of the peer leadership for the Mental Health Service.

- Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience as deemed relevant by the employer.
- Personal experience of having a mental health problem or disorder, and of using recovery principles to share your personal experience of mental health to support consumers in their recovery journey.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and commitment to consumer led recovery and ability to plan, implement and evaluate group and peer led interventions using a quality improvement process.
- Demonstrated experience in determining priorities, strategies, developing policy , as well as leading peer support services, supervising & leading staff
- Proven experience in effectively supervising and leading staff.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in both community and inpatient settings when supporting people with a mental illness and complex needs whilst utilising effective coping strategies to maintain personal health and wellness.
- Experience in working collaboratively with individuals and groups and building and maintaining effective relationships.
- Demonstrated effective negotiation, time management, as well as written and verbal communication skills.
- Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
