Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. An opportunity has become available for qualified Senior Clinical Psychologist to join the Nepean Hospital team on a temporary basis.
The Lifespan Clinics are a suite of outpatient clinics developed to ensure all patients who use methamphetamine are offered an opportunity for assessment, screening and diagnosis for known sequelae and complications of methamphetamine use. Targeted interventions are developed and implemented based on individual need, consistent with the principles of harm minimization and longitudinal follow up. Building around individuals, the clinics bring in the expertise of specialists who understand the health manifestations of methamphetamine on body systems associated with their scope of practice.Clinicians work synergistically with Addiction Medicine specialists and highly skilled drug and alcohol clinicians to realise patient centred and fully integrated care.
Your role as the Senior Clinical/Forensic/ Clinical Neuropsychologist position is responsible for establishing and leading the implementation of evidenced-based psychological assessments and interventions for the treatment and management of drug and alcohol addiction and psychological conditions for people presenting to newly established Drug & Alcohol Lifespan Clinics.
Within the Lifespan group of clinics, the Senior Clinical/Forensic/ Clinical Neuropsychologist will provide high quality, patient focused, evidence-based psychological assessment, neuropsychological assessment, diagnosis and treatment to improve outcomes of patients and families/carers engaged with the program, this includes the provision of supervision, consultation and clinical leadership that requires a higher-level knowledge and experience that is manifested in higher levels of competence, initiative, innovation, responsibility, and the development and extension of applications of assessment and treatment methods. This position will provide specialised assessment and interventions to the Neurodiversity and ADHD clinics of the Lifespan group of clinics, as well as others.
You will lead the provision of planning, coordination and evaluation of high-quality, evidence-informed psychological services. This includes the provision of advice, support and guidance on the delivery of psychological services to management and other clinical psychologists and allied heath staff, including an active caseload of significantly complex patients that will be supported within the context of a multidisciplinary health care team. You will contribute to establishing the model of care, participate in the evaluation of clinical outcomes of services including research activities, assist in the development and provision of education and training programs, and will be expected to provide supervision of other psychologists.
This position is open to fully registered and endorsed Clinical, Forensic and Neuropsychologists.

What you will bring to the role:
- Current Senior Clinical, Forensic or Neuropsychologist or eligible for Senior Clinical, Forensic or Neuropsychologist grading (with no less than 12 months service at the 5th year of service and thereafter on the Clinical Psychology Award salary scale). This includes holding a post graduate degree in clinical, forensic, or clinical neuropsychology (Masters, and/or Doctorate or PhD) and full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia and practice endorsement in Clinical Psychology, Forensic or Clinical Neuropsychology.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in psychological assessment, case formulation and intervention for adults and adolescents with a severe mental illness, drug and alcohol concerns, and/or neurodivergent disorders
- Excellent understanding of the relevant scientific literature on psychological services for adults and adolescents with a severe mental illness, drug and alcohol concerns, and/or neurodivergent disorders.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills including negotiation, advocacy, interpersonal skills, consultation-liaison skills and writing a range of clinical and operational documentation
- Demonstrated experience in leading/managing clinical programs, provision of clinical supervision, and mentoring and development of staff.
- Demonstrated high level organisational, prioritisation and time management skills in an environment of competing clinical demands.
- Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff
- Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel
