About The Opportunity
The South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) Staying Safe in Community Directorate (PARVAN) is proud to offer a rewarding opportunity for an experienced and culturally grounded Senior Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) to support Aboriginal children, young people, and families impacted by violence, abuse, and neglect. This full-time, permanent role sits across two critical services—the Child Protection Counselling Service (CPCS) and the Sexual Assault Service (SAS)—and is based primarily at Liverpool and Hoxton Park Community Health Centres, with outreach to communities across the Dharawal, Gundungurra and Darug Nations, including Bankstown, Fairfield, Campbelltown, Camden, Wollondilly, and Wingecarribee. In this role, you will bring a deep understanding of Aboriginal culture, community, and kinship systems to ensure culturally safe, respectful, and holistic service provision.
Central to this role is honouring and embedding the values of Aboriginal culture—connection to Country, community, family, spirituality, and identity—into everyday practice. You will provide psycho-social support, case management, and advocacy in culturally meaningful ways, while also mentoring other Aboriginal Health Workers and offering cultural consultation to staff across violence, abuse and neglect (VAN) programs. Your leadership will help shape services that reflect the strengths, resilience, and unique cultural needs of Aboriginal people. You will engage directly with local Elders, Aboriginal organisations and community members to build trust, foster partnerships, and promote early access to care. Through health promotion, prevention, and community education projects, you will help raise awareness of issues like sexual assault and family violence, while supporting healing and safety in culturally safe spaces. With support from the SWSLHD Aboriginal Health team, access to professional development, cultural supervision, peer support, and a range of workplace benefits—including monthly ADOs and use of pool vehicles—you will be empowered to make a lasting impact for Aboriginal families across South Western Sydney.
