About the role

Applications are invited from highly motivated persons to be part of our unique service model within the Homeless Health Service. Tierney House is a 12 bedded hostel located within St Vincent's Hospital campus which will provide hostel accommodation to those experiencing homelessness within the inner city of Sydney. In order to provide a safe environment to the residents, Tierney House will facilitate individuals with access to in-reach healthcare (assessment, stabilisation and maintenance) and supported accommodation for up to 14 days.

Tierney House offers an excellent opportunity to be part of an innovative service. The Support Workers will provide 24 hour care, coordination, supervision and interventions to residents experiencing homelessness; providing a safe physical environment in which residents can receive their in-reach health supports. A comprehensive, orientation, training and education package will be provided for all new staff.

About you

The vacancy is open to Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens who hold a valid New Zealand passport, Australian permanent residents and those non-residents deemed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to be eligible to work in Australia only

Selection Criteria

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.

  • Experience in providing support and services to residents who are experiencing homelessness within a residential setting or a Specialist Homeless Service.

  • Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively both verbally and in the written form with residents, carers, staff and other key stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement care plans to support residents to actively participate in activities of daily living.

  • Demonstrated capacity to work with people from diverse backgrounds, including culturally diverse backgrounds, co-occurring mental health, drug and alcohol and physical health needs.

  • Unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence.

  • Computer literate in Windows environment and demonstrated ability to adhere to documentation and electronic record keeping requirements
