About the role

The MGP Midwife will aim to expand the options for maternal health services for pregnant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and women having an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander baby. The MGP midwife will provide clinical, cultural, educational and psychological support as well as enhancing the seamless transition to child and family health nursing and to other services or agencies as required. The MGP midwife will also have the opportunity to work with women who are not Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, when there is space within their caseload.
 
Demonstrate a broad range of midwifery skills and knowledge to provide and coordinate woman-centred, evidence-informed, high quality, midwifery care (consistent with NSW and SLHD policies, procedures and standards) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, and women having an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander baby, and their partners and families across the continuum of pregnancy, birth and the postnatal/newborn period.

 

We are looking for someone who has

  • Current registration with AHPRA with availability and capacity to work and participate in an on-call, (24 hour per day/7 day per week) roster across the continuum of care that includes pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period as specified in the Pilot Annualised Salary agreement.
  • Experience in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.
  • A current NSW Drivers Licence (P2 Licence Acceptable) and willingness to travel in the course of employment.

About working for SLHD

This is a Category A position. To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy (PD2023_022).

 
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form).​
 
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
