About the Role
The Aboriginal Midwifery Group Practice is a midwifery continuity of care (MCoC) model which provides women with a primary midwife during the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal period. Women who are eligible will identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander or are pregnant and their baby will identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. 
 
Midwives will be required to work a 7 day, rotating on-call roster to provide intrapartum care when required. Each midwife will provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care for approximately 30 women per year. Key features of this model include support for the emotional, cultural, and spiritual wellbeing of the woman, her family, and the community; continuity of care; individualised antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care; multidisciplinary collaboration; education and counselling.

Ideal Candidate

  • Current NSW Drivers Licence (P2 Licence Acceptable) and willingness to travel in the course of employment
  • Current Midwife Registration with AHPRA
  • Promote understanding and respect of Aboriginal philosophies of health and wellbeing as holistic concepts and ensure knowledge, values and beliefs are at the core of the delivery of care
  • Commitment to professional development, including evidence informed practice and the acquisition and retention of comprehensive Midwifery skills (to be completed within 12 months of commencement)

  

This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such.
