About the role:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated clinical Sonographer who is passionate about continuous learning and delivering patient-first care. The Medical Imaging Department at Belmont Hospital delivers both routine and emergency imaging services to inpatients and outpatients from Belmont and the surrounding communities. You’ll be part of a committed team that values collaboration, community, and a shared focus on delivering excellence in patient care.

Our department provides a range of services, including General X-ray, Dental Imaging, Image Intensification, Mobile Imaging, CT, and Ultrasound. Our ultrasound department offers a broad range of services, including obstetric, abdominal/pelvic, venous Doppler, and limited musculoskeletal examinations for both adult and paediatric patients.

In this role, you’ll report to the Chief Radiographer at Belmont Hospital and work closely with experienced clinical and support staff within the Medical Imaging Team. Full training will be provided on Hunter New England Imaging (HNEI) systems, along with all required mandatory training in line with HNE Health standards.

We’re looking for a dedicated and adaptable professional who brings a strong clinical skillset and a patient-first approach to their work. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Proficiency in Ultrasound, General X-ray, and CT imaging (machine-specific training available if needed)
  • Flexibility to work a range of shifts, including weekends, after-hours, on-call, general, theatre, and CT
  • Emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and adaptability in a dynamic clinical environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide preliminary Sign 1 reports
  • Strong critical thinking and negotiation abilities
  • Sound clinical judgment with effective time management and workload prioritisation skills
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and the ability to respond to evolving departmental needs
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
  • A willingness to supervise and support peers and students
  • A proactive approach to quality improvement and a consistent patient-centred mindset
  • Flexibility to attend other sites for training or service coverage as required


Requirements
:

  • Degree in Medical Radiation Science (Diagnostic Radiography) or equivalent. Eligible for registration with Australian Health Professionals Registration Authority (AHPRA), hold/ current NSW EPA Radiation licence and ASAR accreditation
  • Post graduate qualification in Medical Sonography and registration with the Australian Sonographers Accreditation Registry (ASAR)
  • Participate in the Rosters, overtime and on-call duties as required by the site, and which may change from time to time

  • To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport.
