Liverpool Hospital
Liverpool Hospital is located in South Western Sydney, a growing area with a population of over 1 million residents. It is a Level 1 Trauma Centre and a tertiary referral centre for 1 rural and 4 urban hospitals.
The Emergency Department at Liverpool Hospital saw 96000 presentations in 2019 with approximately 50 Level 1 / Code Crimson and 100 Level 2 trauma presentations per month. It is the busiest Emergency Department in the state of New South Wales. It is staffed by experienced senior physicians, many of whom are also sub-specialists in the field of Retrieval Medicine.
A well established Acute Care Surgery Unit (ACSU) is staffed by 4 experienced surgeons, 2 Fellows and a number of highly skilled clinical nurse consultants. The team oversees trauma and acute care surgery at Liverpool Hospital and is well supported by all other surgical subspecialties. The Unit has convened the renowned SWAN Conference for almost 3 decades. The conference has in recent years expanded to include critical care and emergency surgery.
Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing major re-development, with expansion of the Emergency Department which is expected to be completed in 2023/2024. A new co-located Acute Care Imaging Unit, equipped with a CT scanner, Ultrasound and General X-Ray rooms, will provide a dedicated imaging service for the new Emergency Department. This new facility will be supervised by a senior sub-specialist radiologist, who has worked closely with both Emergency and Acute Care Surgery Units for many years.
Trauma/Emergency Radiology is a rapidly growing subspecialty, with numerous job opportunities awaiting fellowship graduates in public and private practice including teleradiology.
