Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is seeking a Fellow in Radiology and Cardiology to join our team at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA).

Where you will be working:
RPA is one of Australia’s premier tertiary referral hospitals and is recognised as a world class leader in healthcare excellence and innovation. It is the principal teaching hospital of the University of Sydney and provides an extensive range of treatment, including diagnostic and interventional services to people in NSW and across Australia.

 
The Department of Radiology and Cardiology:

The Department of Radiology at RPA (RPA Radiology) and the Department of Cardiology at RPA (RPA Cardiology) provide a comprehensive Cardiac Cross-Sectional Imaging service (‘the Service’) for Coronary Imaging / Viability, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Genetic Heart Disease, Structural Heart Interventions (including TAVI, TMVR, TTVR), Sports Cardiology, Heart Failure, Infiltrative / Inflammatory Myocarditis, Arrhythmia, Aortic Disease and Cancer medicine. It is one of the only services that perform Cardiac MRIs on patient with implantable devices. We are looking for a Fellow to join the Service as a 0.8 FTE Provisional Fellow in Cardiac Cross-Sectional Imaging (Tier A).

 


What you will be doing:
As the Fellow, you will coordinate the day-to-day work of the Service, including preparation of patients, supervision and reporting of scans and teaching and training of Junior Medical Staff (in Radiology and Cardiology). You will work at least three days per week in RPA Radiology scanning patients on state-of-the-art equipment – including a Siemens Skyra 3T, GE Signa 1.5T and dual-force Siemens Force CT - to perform cardiac scans for inpatient and outpatients, with CMR analysis via Circle CVI and Report 42 integrated into the eMR and available across multiple workstations. Cardiac CT training will be provided on Advanced Workstation (GE) and Siemens Syngo.via, with exposure to other software packages for Structural Heart (3Mensio). The role will involve: i) three half days per week of CMR; ii) three half days per week of Cardiac CT; iii) one half day per week participating in the preparation for and attendance of Multidisciplinary (MDT), Departmental & Educational Meetings; iv) one half day per week participating in elective or clinical service roles in the specialty Department. This is not limited to, but may include other general/specialised Radiology, Advanced Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology.

 

At the end of the 6-month Fellowship, you will be expected to achieve Level 2 Society for Cardiovascular Medical Resonance (SCMR) Accreditation and Level A Computed Tomography Coronary Angiography (CTCA) Certification. You will also be expected to be able to scan CMR independently. Supervision to the role will be provided through five Cardiologists and three Radiologists accredited to Level 3 SCMR, Level A/B CTCA and skilled in Structural CT and Congenital Imaging. Opportunities will also exist for the Fellow to complete research projects in preclinical and clinical / translational environments, with strong links to the University of Sydney. Further experience may be gained beyond the Fellowship to help achieve Level 3 SCMR and/or Level B CTCA accreditation.

 

The successful candidate will ensure a high standard of professional performance and encouragement of an academic environment which supports education, research and professional development. They will be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) or the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Cardiology with recognised qualifications in Radiology or Cardiology other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW (State) Award. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW (State) Award.
